An overly greedy disposition often leads to the loss of what we already have.

A hungry spaniel, having stolen a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop, was crossing a river. Seeing his reflection in the clear water and mistaking it for another dog with a larger piece of meat, he greedily opened his jaws to snatch at the shadow. In doing so, he dropped the meat he was carrying and lost it in the river.
