The least considerable of all mankind are seldom without self-importance.

A conceited gnat, fully convinced of his own significance, perched himself on the horn of a bull. He expressed great concern lest his weight might be a bother and with much formality begged the bull’s pardon for the liberty he had taken. He assured the bull that he would immediately remove if he was causing any discomfort. The bull, quite unbothered, replied, “Give yourself no uneasiness on that account. I did not notice when you sat down, and I shall probably not miss you when you rise up.”
