Taking a deep breath, Leo decided it was time to be honest. “Miss Johnson,” he began, his voice trembling slightly, “I found the apple under the big oak tree this morning. I didn’t know it was meant for Mr. Turner, and I told Mia it was left for me by mistake.”
Miss Johnson’s face softened into a gentle smile. “Thank you for telling the truth, Leo. It takes courage to admit when we’ve made a mistake. Why don’t we find Mr. Turner together and give him the apple?”
Leo nodded, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. He and Mia walked with Miss Johnson to the garden, where they found Mr. Turner planting marigolds. Leo handed him the apple, explaining the mix-up. Mr. Turner laughed and ruffled Leo’s hair.
