Moral: We must toil in summer if we would eat in winter.
In a field one summer’s day, a Grasshopper was hopping around, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, laboriously carrying an ear of corn to its nest.
“Why not come and chat with me?” said the Grasshopper. “Why toil away like that?”
“I am helping to store food for the winter,” replied the Ant. “I recommend you do the same.”
“Why worry about winter?” said the Grasshopper. “We’ve got plenty of food now.” But the Ant continued its work. When winter came, the Grasshopper found itself starving, while the Ants had plenty of food from their summer stores. Then the Grasshopper realized its folly.
