As a Dog was running along the banks of the Nile, he became thirsty. However, fearing the river’s monsters, he did not stop to drink. Instead, he lapped at the water as he ran. A Crocodile, emerging from the water, asked him why he was in such a hurry. The Crocodile said he had often wished for the Dog’s company and would be glad to take this opportunity to get acquainted. The Dog responded, “You do me great honor, but it’s precisely to avoid companions like you that I am in such haste.”
