A poor man, traveling through a dreary forest in the depth of winter, found himself in danger of freezing to death. He came upon the cave of a satyr and asked for shelter from the cold. The satyr kindly agreed. The man, upon entering, began to blow on his fingers. Curious, the satyr asked why. “To warm my frozen fingers,” replied the traveler. Later, when the satyr prepared a hot meal, the man began to blow on his food as well. “What now?” asked the satyr. “The food is too hot; I blow on it to cool it,” said the traveler. “Do you?” quoth the satyr. “Then leave my cave at once, for I desire no communication with a creature that blows hot and cold with the same breath.”
